Turbocharger Boost Control 'A' Slow Response
The turbo's boost control responded too slowly to a command — classic symptom of a variable-geometry turbo whose vanes are gummed with soot.
Worth diagnosing soon — left alone, the underlying issue can grow into a bigger, costlier problem.
Common symptoms
- Lazy spool / slow boost
- Reduced power
- Weak exhaust brake
Common causes
- Carboned, sticking VGT vanes
- Worn actuator
- Soot/coking in the turbine housing
How it's diagnosed & fixed
- Clean or service the VGT
- Test actuator response
- Address the soot source (EGR/fueling) so it doesn't recur
