P0087Serious
Fuel Rail/System Pressure Too Low
The engine commanded a fuel rail pressure the system couldn't reach — actual pressure stayed below target. On a common-rail diesel that points at the fuel supply or high-pressure pump side.
Take this seriously. It can trigger a power derate or lead to damage if you keep driving — get it diagnosed promptly.
Common symptoms
- Hard starting or long crank
- Power loss / limp mode under load
- Stalling
- Rough running
Common causes
- Restricted fuel filter
- Weak lift/supply pump
- Failing high-pressure (CP) pump
- Leaking injector bleeding off pressure
- Air in the fuel system
How it's diagnosed & fixed
- Check and replace the fuel filter(s) and drain the water separator
- Measure supply pressure to the high-pressure pump
- Test for injector return (back-leak) flow
- Inspect for air/fuel leaks before condemning the CP pump
