Exhaust Pressure Sensor Fault

Emissions system

The exhaust back-pressure (EBP) sensor signal is faulty. These sensors live in soot and commonly clog, sending a bad reading that affects EGR and emissions control.

Worth diagnosing soon — left alone, the underlying issue can grow into a bigger, costlier problem.

Common symptoms

  • Reduced power
  • Regen/emissions issues
  • Check-engine light

Common causes

  • Soot-clogged EBP sensor or tube
  • Wiring/connector fault
  • Sensor failure

How it's diagnosed & fixed

  • Remove and clean the sensor and its tube
  • Compare reading to actual pressure
  • Replace the sensor if clogged or failed
